Hello. Welcome to INA, a weekly resource to remind us that even though we are physically distant, we are connected in community. This collaborative resource includes worship, wellbeing tips, music and poetry.
Today marks Windrush Day, established in 2018 to encourage communities across UK to celebrate the contribution of the Windrush Generation and their descendants.
Windrush Day 2020
Over the last 70 years, there have been numerous injustices that the Windrush Generation have faced, caused by both the general public and government policy. This short video details some of those injustices, including the 2018 Windrush Scandal, where many people were wrongly detained, denied legal rights and threatened with deportation.
This video is one example of the prejudice and racism many people coming to England have experienced and still experience today. Some of us have never been subject to that sort of prejudice, which is a good example of privilege. How do you think it would feel to arrive somewhere new and be made to feel unwelcome? How can we as a school make sure people don't experience that when they come to SMRT? Please let me know.
As we consider these questions, let us remember the words of Leviticus 19:33:
Don’t mistreat any foreigners who live in your land. Instead, treat them as well as you treat citizens and love them as much as you love yourself. Remember, you were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.

Wellbeing – Chaplain Joey
During this lockdown, we can spend lot of time closely following current events; whether that's Covid-19, the Yemen crisis or the Black Lives Matter movement. It's important to keep informed but also limit how much you watch and read. This weekend, try doing some other things that help you unwind; Listen to some music, get outside or join @SMRTPE daily workout.
